Lake Carnegie In the 1870s, philanthropist Andrew Carnegie partially financed the creation of Lake Carnegie to be used as a halfway station for water being pumped out of the Allegheny River. The technology for holding water changed over the years and Lake Carnegie became a recreational lake instead. In 1932 the lake was cut in half to make room for the park's swimming pools, but it is still used for fishing in summer.
