Restoration at the Riverview Park Chapel Shelter began over a year ago when PPC and the City's DPW rem0ved the dilapidated tennis courts and large invasive Siberian elm trees that threatened the natural habitat. PPC continued to work with hundreds of volunteers removing invasive plants such as honeysuckle and garlic mustard to prepare the site for the planting of native trees and shrubs this fall.
The most dramatic changes will be to the Chapel Shelter itself, which will be restored to its original grandeur with replicated dormers and steeple. The porch along the perimeter will be redesigned with historic detail, the restrooms and kitchen will be updated to improve handicap-accessibility, and heating facilities will be improved.
