Directions to Forbes and Braddock
Biddle Building, tennis courts, baseball fields, playground, and trail access


From the North

Follow PA-8 into Pittsburgh--it will turn into Penn Ave.
Turn right on S. Braddock Ave.
After you pass through the stoplight at S. Braddock and Forbes Ave., a parking lot will be on your right next to the tennis courts and baseball fields.

From the South

Take Green Belt into Pittsburgh.
Cross the Rankin Bridge and continue to follow the Green Belt.
Take a slight left onto S. Braddock Ave.
Follow S. Braddock for about a mile, and a parking lot will be on your left next to the tennis courts and baseball fields.

From the East

Follow I-376 W into Pittsburgh and take exit 7 toward Edgewood/Swissvale.
Turn right onto S. Braddock Ave.
Follow S. Braddock for a little less than a mile, and a parking lot will be on your left next to the tennis courts and baseball fields.

From the West

Follow I-376 E into Pittsburgh and take exit 7 toward Edgewood/Swissvale.
Take the ramp toward Edgewood.
Turn slight left to take the Braddock Ave. ramp.
Turn slight right onto S. Braddock Ave.
Follow S. Braddock for a little less than a mile, and a parking lot will be on your left next to the tennis courts and baseball fields.

From the North

Follow PA-8 into Pittsburgh and turn left on Penn Ave.
Turn right onto S. Dallas Ave.
Turn left onto Beechwood Boulevard. 
FEC will be on your left.

From the South

Take Green Belt into Pittsburgh.

Homestead/Squirrel Hill.
Turn left onto Forward Ave.
Stay in the left lane to go onto Murray Ave.
Turn right onto Phillips Ave.
Turn left onto Beechwood Boulevard.
FEC will be on your right after about half a mile.

Don’t let the shorter days get you down! Join Venture Outdoors for a brisk evening hike at Frick Park. We’ll follow the winding paths of this beautiful city park, covering 4-6 miles per evening. The cost is $5 for Venture Outdoors members and $8 for non-members. Register at www.ventureoutdoors.org.

Venture Outdoors Ecology of Beer Hike
Frick Park

Join local ecologist Tony Baumert for an in-depth look at the ecosystem of his backyard, Frick Park. You'll wander 4 miles of the park as he talks about forest succession, invasive species and deer herbivory and how they affect the plants and animals that live in the park. After the hike, join Tony "The Beer Man" Knipling from Vecenie Distributing Company for another ecology lesson, but this time on beer. You'll learn what is involved in the beer making process and taste beers from around the country that promote their sustainable practices. Minimum age 21. Cost is $25 for Venture Outdoors members and $34 for non-members. Register at www.ventureoutdoors.org.

Geology Tour of Frick Park
Biddle Parking Lot on S. Braddock Ave.

Join the Nine Mile Run Watershed Association and geologist Albert Kollar of the Carnegie Museum of Natural History for this unique trip back in time to when Braddock Avenue was the Monongahela River and Pennsylvania was close to the equator.  Using the rocks and formations in Frick Park, participants will learn about important geological and paleontological periods.  You must pre-register with lisa@ninemilerun.org or call 412-371-8779 ext. 115.
