For Kids

Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium

At 77 acres, the zoo is home to Pennsylvania's only major aquarium, and its Kids Kingdom is ranked as one of the top three children's zoos in the nation. Visitors can explore the mysteries of wildlife and see thousands of animals, including more than 20 endangered or threatened species. Naturalistic exhibits such as the Tropical Forest Complex and the new Water’s Edge exhibit allows visitors to see animals in environments designed to replicate their natural habitats.  The zoo is open every day except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day. For more zoo info, call 1-800-474-4966 or visit www.pittsburghzoo.org.

Super Playground

Community volunteers built the "super playground" in five days in 1991 to provide a much-needed play area for the Highland Park community. The distinctive wooden structure includes a trolley ride, catwalks, tire netting for climbing, swings, slides, and a play phone system using underground tubes.

Farmhouse Playground

The playground behind the historic farmhouse was built in 2002 as part of a renovation of the building, which had been damaged by fire in 2000. The playground features swings, benches, and climbing structures, with a surface containing shapes of farm animals.

Pool Grove Playground

Take a break from laps in the pool at the Pool Grove Shelter playground, located right across Lake Drive.
