WYEP Summer Music Festival | posted 6.24.09
Last year's WYEP Summer Music Festival drew Schenley Plaza's largest crowds to date. Come experience great live music in a beautiful setting as we welcome the festival back this Friday, June 26 starting at 6:00pm. Music from Meeting of Important People, the Duhks, Dar Williams, and the Sam Roberts Band will highlight the evening. The construction fence has gone up around the Mellon Park Walled Garden! Workers will begin the process of restoring the garden beginning with a groundbreaking ceremony in July. To learn more about the project, click here.

Ever wonder how to identify that majestic tree you see walking through the park? Let our field staff help! Everyone is welcome to attend our Urban EcoSteward Tree and Shrub ID training this Wednesday, June 24 at 6:00pm at the Riverview Park Chapel Shelter. After the Storm | posted 6.18.09
Last night's storm ripped through Pittsburgh's parks, leaving downed trees and washed-out trails for the morning after. If you'd like to help clean up one of the affected areas, the Nine Mile Run Watershed Association is having a Stream Sweep this Sunday, June 21 from 9:30am to noon. The storm washed a great deal of litter into the stream, and your help is needed to remove it! Read more and sign up here.

It's summertime, and what better time to pull up a lawn chair in the park and revisit the Harry Potter book series? Whether you're reading book 1 or book 7, you'll appreciate the Hogwarts-inspired sounds of the Remus Lupins as they put on a free concert at Schenley Plaza tomorrow night, Tuesday, June 16 at 6:00pm. We're bringing back free yoga classes at Schenley Plaza on Saturdays and Mondays this summer! This Saturday through the end of August, Candace Lain will teach classes at 10:00am on the lawn. And then starting on Monday, Pratique Yoga will offer classes at noon - the perfect way to recharge on your lunch break.

The Parks Conservancy is proud to partner with the City of Pittsburgh and the Allegheny Regional Asset District on a new initiative - Parks Are Free. This summer's campaign will encourage the people of Pittsburgh to get out into the parks by highlighting the hundreds of free activities happening this year. Generously sponsored by UPMC Health Plan, Parks Are Free features a calendar of events that will soon be searchable by park and event category. This Saturday, June 6 is National Trails Day, and the Parks Conservancy is teaming with several other local organizations to improve the trails in the Hill District's Kirkpatrick Park. Projects include trail maintenance, weeding, and litter pickup. Meet up at the corner of Kirkpatrick and Reed at 10:00. Bring plenty of water--tools and snacks will be provided. If you've ever walked by Panther Hollow Lake or Nine Mile Run after a rainstorm, you know how much litter washes into these bodies of water. But do you know all the other ways stormwater affects the parks? Come to the Schenley Park Cafe and Visitor Center this Wednesday, June 3 for our free lecture, "No Place Like Home: What You Can Do On Your Own Property to Improve the Watershed."
