Past Events

In November 2009, the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy and The Cultural Landscape Foundation hosted the Pioneers Regional Symposium "The Hunter and the Philosopher: John O. Simonds, Pioneer Landscape Architect."  The symposium celebrated the life and work of the visionary author, environmentalist, and landscape architect who designed Mellon Square.  Nationally recognized speakers explored Simonds’ influential professional activities, his built legacy and unique design philosophy, illuminating Simonds’ influence on the City of Pittsburgh, the field of landscape architecture, and his pioneering environmental planning efforts.
