Kate and Peter's Treehouse
A fun and innovative new space for outdoor learning will be created in Frick Park in memory of two children who loved to play there - Kate and Peter Ambrusko. The space is intended for use by the community's children, including local schools, and its design will celebrate and honor Kate and Peter's love of play and the natural world. The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy serves as project manager, which includes facilitating the design and construction process. We partnered with Citiparks, the Department of City Planning, and the Department of Public Works to select a project team that includes Terra Design Studios, evolveEA, and John Eastman Studios.
The project team conducted three public meetings in 2011 to help shape the design and functionality of the space.
April 28
The kickoff meeting was focused on getting kids' ideas about what the treehouse should be.
June 2
At this outdoor session, attendees visited the location of the treehouse and we asked everyone for their ideas. Following this activity, the project team began to develop design concepts.
July 28
At this public meeting, the project team unveiled a preliminary design for the treehouse, and community members provided feedback. In addition, the project team for the Environmental Center shared design principles for the landscape and building.
